Listen to Obituary

David Alexander Henderson passed away on September 26, 2026 in Tucson, Arizona. David was born on August 10, 1952 in Bainbridge Island, Wash. He grew up there with his parents Eleanora and Percy. Bainbridge Island is where he enjoyed his youth with siblings, cousins and friends. David was an excellent poet, had a big heart even if he had a murmur in it, and he tried to be a good father and companion.

He is survived by his children Walter, Clare and Eleanor, whom he loved very much. He is also survived by their mother, Barbara, Ruth Haldeman, his devoted and loving companion, and his two sisters, Susan and Vicky. He is preceded in death by his brothers Warren, Jerry, Mikey and Percy.

David held a Master of Fine Arts Writing degree and a Masters Degree in Public Administration. Sometimes he was too smart for his own good and he took immense pride in having a deep understanding of both systems and matters of the “soul.” David loved thrifting - he could always find the perfect cap or coat - and was a phenomenal chef. He loved to read The New York Times, watch Law and Order, and listen to Bob Dylan, whom he saw him in concert in June with Ruth where he expressed that he was seeing his “childhood hero.” David seriously should have competed on NPR’s “Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me!” he ALWAYS knew the answer. David will be missed dearly but thankfully such expansive souls leave you with a lot to remember them by.

Love is the beginning, Love is the continuation, And Love is the end.
