Janet Marie Tschida was born November 28, 1941, to Robert and Frances (Muellner) Anderson in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and passed away after a brief illness on February 24, 2026, in Tucson, Arizona. Janet grew up in the West 7th Street neighborhood of Saint Paul and graduated as valedictorian from Monroe High School, where she was also a baton-twirling majorette. She went on to attain a BS and MS in biology and chemistry from the College of Saint Catherine, having earned a full merit scholarship as a first-generation college student.

After a whirlwind romance, in July 1966 Janet married Donald Joseph Tschida, an electrician foreman who later became an electrical inspector for the City of Saint Paul. They set up their home in Mounds Park on Dayton's Bluff overlooking the city skyline and bought a cabin in Sturgeon Lake, where they would spend nearly 60 summers together. In retirement they split their time between Tucson, Arizona, surrounded by a community of friends, and Sturgeon Lake, surrounded by extended family.

Janet started her career as a medical technologist, working in hospital laboratories including Saint Joseph's and Mounds Park Hospital. After having children she studied to become an international travel agent, embarking on a second career that would take her and Don to more than eighty countries over thirty years. Her success as a travel agent allowed her to open the world to her children, her mother, and in-laws, who each had the opportunity to share in the travel adventures.

Jan had many talents and was known to master all that she set out to do -- a homemaker supreme -- excellent and prolific home-cook, baker, and skilled and sought after seamstress. Above all else, she was a devoted wife to Donald, with whom she enjoyed a long retirement together pursuing their hobbies; and a caring mother and grandmother who never forgot a birthday or life event. Her giving spirit will be remembered by all who passed through her doors and had the opportunity to sample her kind hospitality and delicious treats.

Janet is survived by "the love of her life," her husband Donald, her children Mark (Breca), Anne Tschida Gomberg (Michael), Julie Tschida Brown (David) and grandchildren: Joseph, Kate, Lucas, Maxwell, Sascha and Khloe. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Kathleen Jambor.

A Celebration of Life is planned for July 4, 2026, in Sturgeon Lake, Minnesota.
