In Loving Memory of Jose Manuel Herrera Ortiz

Jose was born on April 29, 1957, in Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico, to Roberto and Bertha Ortiz. He entered eternal rest on July 13, 2026, leaving behind a family who loved him deeply.

Jose was raised in Bisbee, Arizona. He shared a lifelong bond with his brother, Roberto "Tito," and his sisters, Lupe "Maria" and Patricia "Pati." He is also lovingly remembered by his maternal siblings, Ana, Humberto "Chubeto," Leticia, and Rosie, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who became family.

He is lovingly survived by his four daughters: Kimberly Duchene (Anthony Garcia), Sylvia (Jason Moyle), Erika Ortiz, and Angelica Ortiz. He was a proud grandfather to Katrina, Anthony, and Michael Maxam; Isaac and Olivia Moyle; and Jacob Morales. He was also blessed with one great-granddaughter, Maya Melton. Completing his family were his two beloved grand fur babies, Zoe and Lacy, who brought him endless joy whenever he saw them.

Jose's passion for life began early. While still in high school, he was recruited to play professional baseball in Mexico—a testament to his athletic talent and determination. He later worked for many years as an auto body mechanic before beginning a career as a truck driver. In his younger years, Jose enjoyed amateur boxing and spent countless hours in his garage building race cars. Whatever he pursued, he did with pride, dedication, and heart.

One of Jose's greatest joys was food. He was the ultimate foodie and loved discovering new restaurants and had the best recommendations. Whether it was Chinese, sushi, steak, or authentic Mexican cuisine, he appreciated every meal and could often identify the ingredients that made a dish special.

Above all, Jose was resilient. He faced life's challenges with remarkable strength and remained a fighter until the very end. He will be remembered for his quick wit, generous spirit, unforgettable stories, and the laughter he brought to those around him. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the many lives he touched.

Our family is forever grateful for the compassionate love and care Jose received at Peppi's House in Tucson, Arizona. In his final days, he was surrounded by his daughters, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, and nephews. Jose was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. Although his journey on earth has ended, his love, his stories, and his spirit will remain with us forever.

Celebration of Life Mass will be held on Saturday, August 15 at 9:00 a.m. at: St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 100 Quality Hill Rd., Bisbee, AZ.

Burial to follow at the Old Evergreen Cemetery in Bisbee, Arizona.
