Nutritional Awareness

I realized I could not heal anything until I got my eating under control. I could not heal hunger and craving until I got my eating under control. My particular trials and tribulations were constipation, sensitive skin i.e. eczema, eating disorders and migraines. No more migraines and eating disorders since 2000. However, I worked continuously and successfully to heal the constipation and skin issues. The work went on one day at a time throughout all of my life. I did not arrive at ‘now I am healed’. Regeneration and renewal is a daily and lifetime process. I did it. You can do it.

I helped people the most by sharing my knowledge of the gastrointestinal (GI) system and how it affects all our body systems and life! You can fix your gut. You need to fix your gut. 93% of Americans are metabolically unhealthy and it all begins in the gut.

Resume

1963 I graduated from Trinity College in Washington DC with a BA in Political Science. I had a lifelong fascination with international politics and the politics of food science.

1966 I received an MA in Education from Stanford University. I realized the importance of educating people on how to heal themselves naturally. That is the key. I taught a series of nutritional, hydrotherapeutic and movement seminars to support people in their lifestyle transformation.

1971 – I began nutritional changes initially with raw vegan, vegan diet and some intermittent fasting with either water or raw juices.

1975 – I visited Hippocrates Health Institute to study their raw vegan program with fermented nuts, seeds and veggies; wheat grass, growing wheat grass, sunflower and buckwheat greens, sprouting, and more. I learned and practiced European naturopathy.

1994 – BFA in Dance University of Arizona. I realized the abdomen as the core of movement and the central role of the intestines in health and movement. I always had a love for movement and dance. I studied the martial arts, especially the sword, and was an accomplished Hatha Yoga practitioner for 50 years. I became an opera buff and frequented the Santa Fe Opera numerous times.

I had a very heroic depth in my soul. I have two cousins Jack Shea and Jim Shea who won gold medals in Winter Olympic events. I was a natural athlete all my life and played tennis since High School. I played with fire and zeal for the competition and winning.

1994 – I read Breaking the Vicious Cycle by Elaine Gottschall MS and moved in the direction of reducing complex sugars (disaccharides lactose and sucrose and polysaccharide grains, beans, starchy roots) and greater use of eggs, meat, fish and dairy. The diet is called Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) and the goal is to heal Inflammatory Bowel Disease. However, it heals a host of other conditions. The SCD is similar to the Ketogenic Diet which has been known to heal brain disorders since the 1920s. The problem in almost all people is with their gut, its lining is broken (Leaky Gut) and the gut microbiome is degraded. The radical overhaul that is necessary with most people requires a coach and that was one of my main career functions.

2010 – I read Gut and Psychology Syndrome by Campbell-McBride MD and began to introduce those concepts into the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD).

2011 – I developed workshops and classes on Metabolic Syndrome: Causes and Cures and in the process became a ‘subject matter’ expert on sugar, processed food and metabolism. 70% of the American food supply is contaminated with processed food full of carbohydrates and added sugars not to mention added chemicals unrecognizable by the human body. Markers of Metabolic Syndrome are abdominal visceral fat, fatty liver, high blood pressure, triglycerides, insulin and glucose as well as intestinal inflammation (Leaky Gut). These markers lead to heart disease, Type II diabetes, obesity, cancer and Alzheimer’s. I supported my clients to learn how to heal Metabolic Syndrome naturally through gut nutrition, colon hydrotherapy and detoxification.

2012 – I received Gut and Psychology Syndrome Program (GAPS) certification, a nutritional and lifestyle program that heals and seals the gut and reseeds the good microbes developed by Campbell-McBride MD. It is specific for neurological disorders such as the Autism and Alzheimer’s. However, the gut must be healed before the neurological issues

are healed. The protocol heals Inflammatory Bowel Disease and other gut issues first then moves on to the cardiovascular system and nervous system for healing. The website is http://www.gaps.me/.

2014 – I attended classes from Thomas Rau MD focused on Biological Medicine and his healing protocols at Bio-Medicine International in Schwellbrun, Switzerland. His clinic is in the Hotel Sonnenberg where he helps his patients with two-week detoxification therapies for a wide variety of metabolic problems, especially cancer. Biological Medicine, as he calls it, is based on detoxification, healing the intestines and rebuilding the body’s immune system so the instinct for self-healing can be optimized. The body must also be in an alkaline state for such self-healing. Colon hydrotherapy is a major part of Dr. Rau’s program. https://biomed-int.com/ch-de. My sister-in-law Cathy Shea is certified by Dr. Rau in his methodology, especially the colon hydrotherapy component, and teaches programs similar to what I did. She is a leading international expert in colon hydrotherapy and detoxification. https://cathysheaschool.com/

Your healing is a combination of many factors that include low carb nutrition, movement, and contemplative practices to awaken the instinct for self-transcendence. I could have helped you with detoxifying, rebuilding and creating a fun plan to regenerate your life. You can still do it. You must do it to lead a lasting and happy life.

Finally, my lineage was Irish and Scandinavian. I am part Viking since they invaded Ireland for hundreds of years. I was born with fierceness and a wicked sense of humor. Humor is essential to healing.
