Listen to Obituary

Xavier Felix Gallegos passed away on August 7, 2026, in Tucson, Arizona. He was a dad, grandpa, friend, photographer, fisherman, cook, hiker, and a man who absolutely loved to dance.

Photography was his career and passion. He was a photojournalist for the Tucson Citizen newspaper for more than 30 years and was well known throughout Tucson for his work. Over the years, his camera captured so much of the city and the community around him, from the Tucson Rodeo to University of Arizona sports and all the moments in between. Throughout his career, he received countless awards, and the community will always be proud of him. He didn’t just take pictures; he documented Tucson’s history.

He loved being outdoors, especially camping, hunting, fishing, and being near the water. These moments outdoors and on the water with friends and family brought him so much happiness. Give him a fishing pole and a place near the water, and he was always where he wanted to be.

Tumamoc Hill was his favorite hiking trail. He spent many mornings hiking there throughout the week for the exercise, the peace, and the scenery. So when you see Tumamoc, or find yourself walking that trail, think of Xavier. A piece of him will always be there.

He was an amazing cook, and the kitchen was where he felt completely comfortable. He was always preparing something and feeding his friends and family. This was just another part of who he was.

And then there was salsa dancing. He loved the music, the dance clubs, and all of his friends in the salsa community. He would send videos of himself dancing to his daughter, having fun and doing something that made him genuinely happy. Those videos are even more special now.

There won’t ever be just one thing that reminds his family of him. It will be a photograph. A salsa song. Someone standing in the kitchen cooking. A fishing pole near the water. And, of course, Tumamoc Hill.

Xavier is survived by his son, Eric Gallegos; his daughter, Brianna Gallegos; and his grandsons, Anthony and Wyatt.

You will be greatly missed, Dad. We love you, and we will carry you with us always.
